Can We Control Negative Thoughts?

Science says that there is a reason why we tend to think negative. Cortisol is a chemical in our brain that tends to flow more freely and spurs negative thoughts. Our brain loves cortisol. Known as an alarm system, our brain releases the chemical cortisol as a way to warn us about an imminent danger. Mild ‘dangerous’ experiences are common in our day-to-day lives, and they trigger cortisol in our brain with a snap, which means negative thoughts come more easily than positive thoughts. The truth is a bit more complicated, however. The problem for a lot of us is that we develop a pattern of negativity because our brains prefer that pattern. The pump is already primed. So, can we control it?
